But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.
— The Second Letter to Timothy, Chapter 3 Verses 14-17 (NRSV).
Befriending the Bible: Reading Condemnation with CARE is a unique curriculum developed by Rev. Jacki while she was pastor of Grace Baptist Church. This program is dedicated to supporting today’s LGBT community and loved ones on the spiritual journey of “rightly dividing the word of truth” about Biblical witness and sexual and family diversity. A tool originally designed for those struggling with religiously-rooted homophobia, this method will be of interest to anyone committed to studying Scripture with both devotion and Spirit-led critical thinking.
Key principles include:
— Recognition of our desires for holiness and faithfulness
— A relational approach to living in the wisdom of Scripture’s elders
— Engagement with the contexts, stories and priorities of the “cloud of witnesses”
— Partnership with the Holy Spirit in history’s projects of liberation, diversity and equality
Befriending the Bible will be edited for publication and available herein 2012.
